Tom Lee Crypto Bull Market: Real Signal or Bitmine Hype?

Bitcoin and Ethereum daily key support and resistance levels after Tom Lee's bull market call

Bitcoin daily chart showing support at $82,580 and resistance at $85,210 after Tom Lee's bull market call

Introduction:

Tom Lee says the crypto bull market has been running since late June, but Bitcoin is still about 30% lower year-over-year and stuck under a clear resistance shelf. The narrative is running ahead of the tape, so I'm trading the levels and not the headline.

What Lee Actually Said

Lee, chairman of Bitmine, told Korea Blockchain Week that a new cycle is underway and could be the biggest yet. His drivers are tokenization, a rotation out of AI equities, fresh capital from generational wealth transfer, and digital asset treasury companies that face no redemption pressure.

He also keeps a $150K Bitcoin target. His $60K Ethereum number is a long-dated call, so don't price it into a trade this quarter.

The Part Most Headlines Skip

Lee is not a neutral narrator. Bitmine holds roughly 5.99 million ETH, close to 5% of supply, and keeps adding weekly.

That weekly bid is a real flow, but it is also reflexive. When the largest buyer is also the loudest bull, discount the rhetoric and track the flows.

Where the Tape Actually Is

Bitcoin closed September 29 near $83,640, after topping out around $87,250-$87,330 on September 21-23. September is up about 7%, the best September on record, but the daily structure is a pullback inside consolidation.

Ethereum closed near $2,677. It got rejected at $2,742 intraday and remains capped under the $2,740-$2,743 shelf.

Flows are mixed. Spot ETH ETFs printed a small net outflow on September 29, snapping a seven-day inflow streak, while Bitcoin funds kept buying. Analysts also flagged that leverage has cleared near Bitcoin's large long-term holder cost-basis cluster around $84K. That is healthier than a crowded long, but check funding rates and open interest on your own terminal before sizing up.

Macro is still noisy. Geopolitical headlines and oil are moving risk appetite day to day.

Bitcoin Key Levels

  • Support: $82,580-$82,940 (September 24 and 28 lows)

  • Resistance: $84,490-$85,210 (recent highs, including September 25)

  • Upside target: $87,250-$87,330 (September peak)

  • Downside pocket: $80,150-$80,910

Bullish Case

A daily close above $85,210 that holds on a retest turns that shelf into support and puts $87,250-$87,330 back in play. A clean break of that high would confirm Lee's thesis on the chart.

Invalidation: a daily close back below $84,490 after the breakout means the reclaim failed.

Bearish Case

A daily close below $82,580 breaks the range floor and sends price toward $80,150-$80,910, where resting liquidity likely sits. A liquidity sweep of those lows followed by a fast reclaim would be a bear trap, and I'd flip long on it.

Invalidation: a daily close above $85,210 kills the short.

Ethereum Key Levels

  • Support: $2,635-$2,652

  • Resistance: $2,740-$2,743, then $2,787-$2,804

  • Downside: $2,568 (September 20 low)

Bullish case: a daily close above $2,743 that holds targets $2,787-$2,804. Invalidation is a close below $2,652.

Bearish case: a daily close below $2,635 exposes $2,568. Invalidation is a close above $2,743.

Illustrative Setups (Not Signals)

  • BTC range long: Entry $83,000, stop $82,400 (below the support block), first target $85,210. That is roughly 3.7R, and a $87,250 target stretches it above 7R.

  • ETH breakout long: Enter on a retest of $2,743 after a daily close above it, stop $2,690, target $2,787-$2,804.

  • Position sizing: Risk a fixed small percentage per trade. A macro headline can wick through stops before a level "fails."

Why I'm Not Chasing the Narrative

A bull market needs price confirmation, not conference-stage confidence. Bitcoin still has to clear its September high before "bull market underway" is more than a thesis.

The Q4 institutional rotation Lee expects is plausible, but underweight institutions have been underweight for a long time. Wait for ETF inflows to stay consistent and for a daily close above $85,210, not a wick.

Bias: Neutral-to-bullish above $82,580, and aggressive only on a daily close over $85,210. Below $82,580, stand aside or trade the $80K pocket.
